FC Barcelona have launched disciplinary proceedings against their goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who is on the verge of leaving Camp Nou, according to a report by AFP on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old German goalkeeper, who recently underwent a back surgery, has declined to allow Barça disclose his medical information to La Liga, which could help the body assess the length of his unavailability.
According to Marca, the Blaugrana club intended to use the long-term absence of ter Stegen to comply with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations and register new players. But the goalkeeper’s refusal and the extension of goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny’s contract, makes this operation impossible.
Still in the red financially while awaiting the temporary reopening of the Camp Nou, the Spanish champions consider that Ter Stegen’s position could cause them sporting and economic harm.
Ter Stegen, the last member of Luis Enrique’s team that won the UEFA Champions League in 2015, could face heavy sanctions, including the termination of his contract, per La Liga regulations.
