Chelsea have agreed to donate part of the total prize money from their victory in the Fifa Club World Cup to the family of late Portuguese players Diogo Jota and André Silva.

The former Liverpool star and his brother were killed in a car accident in Spain on July 3.

Chelsea pocketed more than €98 million following their 3-0 victory over PSG in the Fifa Club World Cup final on July 13.

The players involved in the competition will share approximately €13.3 million. According to The Athletic, the decision was made jointly by the players and Chelsea management.

Liverpool, where Diego Jota played between 2020 and 2025, have retired his jersey number 20.

Liverpool players will wear a “Forever 20” badge on their shirts and jackets throughout the season, and all profits from the sale of shirts bearing this number will be donated to the club’s foundation.

Diogo’s brother André Silva, 25, was an attacking midfielder and winger at Portuguese side Boavista.

The two men died in a Lamborghini Huracán crash in the province of Zamora in Spain, while returning to Liverpool for pre-season training.

Brazil women became Copa America champions for the ninth time on Saturday, August 4, 2025, after defeating Colombia in the final on penalties in Ecuador.

The clash ended 3-3 at ful- time and went for extra-time, with each side scoring one goal each to force the meeting into a penalty shootout, which eventually went in favour of Brazil 5-4.

The heroine of the evening was Brazil veteran striker Marta, who started from the bench and entered the fray by the 82nd minute while the score stood at 2-2.

Moments later, Mayra Ramirez scored Colombia’s third goal (3-2) and it all seemed they were set to lift their first ever Women’s Copa America title, but Marta snatched the equaliser for Brazil in stoppage time (90+6′).

Marta also put Brazil ahead in extra time (105′) but Colombia levelled the scoring at (115′) to stretch the meeting to a penalty shootout.

While Marta missed her spot kick during the exercise, it did not take away her shine of the evening, as her brief contribution remains memorable.

After 22 years in the Seleção jersey, Marta has been named FIFA Women’s Footballer of the Year six times between 2006 and 2018. This is her fourth crown in the Women’s Copa America.
