FC Barcelona and Marc-André ter Stegen have settled their dispute, with the German goalkeeper agreeing to have his medical file transferred to La Liga, the Catalan club announced on Friday.
“Marc-André ter Stegen has signed the authorisation for the club’s medical services to submit to La Liga the mandatory medical report following his surgery,” the club said in a statement.
“The disciplinary file is now closed and the player regains the first-team captaincy with immediate effect.”
A few hours earlier, in a message posted on his social media, the 33-year-old had said he was “fully willing” to collaborate with his club. Ter Stegen, who recently underwent a back surgery, was in conflict with Barca because he refused to have his medical file shared with La Liga.
The medical report should allow the Spanish professional football governing body to assess the length of his unavailability.
According to Marca, Blaugrana plan to use ter Stegen’s long-term absence to register new recruits while complying with financial fair-play rules.
However, after two seasons cut short by serious injuries, ter Stegen remains subject to a fierce competition for his position.
Barça signed Joan Garcia this summer and extended the contract of Wojciech Szczesny.
